The swift release of Abdi — within roughly 36 hours of his arrest — suggests that charges may not be imminent, though investigators could still be building a case. The nature and scope of what authorities were investigating remains unknown, as does whether Hirsi had any knowledge of the items seized from the shared residence.

Omar has consistently supported universal background checks, assault weapons bans, and red flag laws throughout her tenure in Congress. She has repeatedly called gun violence a public health crisis and advocated for stricter federal regulations on firearms sales and ownership.
