President Donald Trump is preparing to shield his administration from a weaponized Department of Justice if Democrats take control of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
In an interview with the New York Post‘s Miranda Devine, Trump revealed he would use preemptive pardons to protect administration officials from what he calls politically-motivated prosecutions — the same tool Joe Biden used to blanket-protect January 6 committee members.
“I would if I needed to, sure. I would not even think about it. I’d do it. I did it for J6.”
The exchange came after Devine warned Trump that Democrats have threatened to arrest Elon Musk, seize his factories, and nationalize SpaceX.
“They won’t, it’s talk. But if it is talk, we’ll have to protect them,” Trump said.
When Devine pressed him on whether he could preemptively pardon administration officials, Trump pointed to Biden’s playbook. “Well, that’s what Biden did. He gave everybody a pardon. I mean, you had the congressional committee, the unselect committee set up. It was a corrupt committee, they were all corrupt. He gave everybody a pardon.”
“Will you do that?” Devine asked.
“I would if I needed to, sure,” Trump replied.
“Everybody who worked for you?”
“I would not even think about it. I’d do it. I did it for J6.”
Democrats have spent months telegraphing their intention to weaponize congressional investigations if they retake the House or Senate.
In July, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) said Democrats would investigate the Trump family for “corruption” if they win the majority. Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) went further in September, promising Democrats would investigate and possibly impeach Trump cabinet secretaries.
Veteran Democrat strategist James Carville made the threat explicit in October, vowing Democrats would “investigate the hell out of” Trump’s so-called “corruption” after the midterms.
Trump’s preemptive-pardon warning comes as his DOJ has systematically exposed how the Biden administration weaponized law enforcement against conservatives.
In April, the Justice Department released a report revealing Biden’s DOJ targeted pro-life activists for FACE Act prosecutions at the behest of abortion groups. A separate task force report found Biden’s administration targeted Christians holding traditional values.
Republican senators revealed in May that Biden’s DOJ buried newly-released text messages showing possible Hunter Biden prostitution crimes.
The Biden family scored $31 million from five deals in China — all with individuals tied directly to Chinese intelligence.
Multiple financiers with direct ties to Chinese spy operations partnered with Hunter Biden during and after his father’s vice presidency, including the former head of the Ministry of State Security and the head of foreign intelligence recruitment.
Beijing used the relationship as “elite capture” — allowing Hunter Biden to secure meetings and deals at the highest levels of Chinese financial institutions and the Chinese Communist Party in exchange for leveraging the Bidens’ power for Chinese interests.
Tuesday’s midterm elections will determine whether Trump needs to make good on his promise.
