Trump-Backed Julia Letlow Wins Louisiana Senate Runoff — Cassidy Out

Rep. Julia Letlow just crushed Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming in Saturday’s GOP Senate runoff, securing the Republican nomination to replace Sen. Bill Cassidy.

The Associated Press called the race for the Trump-endorsed congresswoman.

Letlow led with 45% of the vote to Fleming’s 28% — a decisive margin that closes one of the cycle’s most contentious Republican primaries.

Cassidy, who voted to convict Trump in the 2021 impeachment trial, finished third in the May primary — effectively ending his Senate career.

Letlow also won the first-round primary over both Fleming and Cassidy, making Saturday’s runoff a formality for the Trump-backed candidate.

With no credible Democratic challenger in deep-red Louisiana, Letlow is all but certain to win the November general election and join the Senate in January.

The victory marks another Trump endorsement win in a GOP primary — and another senator who crossed Trump losing their seat.
