Steve Hilton Labels Becerra ‘Career Politician’ in California Governor Race

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton slammed Democrat Xavier Becerra as a continuation of California’s failed establishment, framing the state’s governor race as a stark choice between 16 years of one-party chaos and real reform.

The two advanced to the general election after finishing among the top two vote-getters in California’s jungle primary.

Hilton appeared on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” Wednesday and drew a sharp contrast with his opponent.

“If you want more of the same, if you’re happy with the chaos and the cost and the incompetence and the corruption of 16 years of Democrat one-party rule, if you want your taxes to go up even more — more regulations on your business, sure — vote for Xavier Becerra, because that’s what he’s promising.”

Hilton pointed to Becerra’s inability to name a single policy he would change from the past 16 years — a gaffe he compared to Kamala Harris’s infamous moment on “The View” when asked what she would do differently from Biden.

Becerra served as Health and Human Services secretary under former President Joe Biden before launching his gubernatorial bid.

“How bad do you have to be for the Biden team to dismiss you as a joke?” Hilton said. “This is what happens when you have a corrupt regime, where you get these career politicians who have no accomplishments.”

Hilton noted Becerra has been a career politician for 36 years.

“They don’t achieve anything, but they’re good at pandering to the various groups,” he added.

Hilton also called for California to implement voter ID laws, arguing the state’s current signature-verification process is broken.

“One of the ways that we can do that is to have voter ID, because then you wouldn’t have this ridiculous signature verification,” he said. “We’ve got people peering at signatures at these vote centers trying to match them.”

Hilton said voter ID will be on the ballot in California in November.
