In a move that’s both shocking and deeply unsettling, officials from Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party have reportedly gifted meat grinders to the mothers of soldiers who died in Ukraine. This grotesque gesture, as reported by The Moscow Times, saw representatives visiting grieving families across the nation.

The report reveals:

The ruling United Russia party in Russia’s northern Murmansk region has sparked controversy after gifting meat grinders to the mothers of soldiers killed in Ukraine.

Meat grinders have disturbingly become a symbol of the high-casualty assaults in Ukraine, a sad reflection of the brutal reality of war. This sentiment is exemplified by the Wagner mercenary group, which previously awarded “Bakhmut Meat Grinder” medals to its fighters.

Photos shared on social media show United Russia’s local chapter in Polyarnye Zori presenting these appliances as part of gift packages to mothers who lost their sons in the conflict.

Facing criticism, United Russia’s Murmansk chapter defended their actions, labeling the backlash as “inhumane and provocative.” They claimed that the mothers themselves requested these gifts.

Mayor Maxim Chengayev clarified, “The meat grinder was not part of the standard gift set, but one woman asked for it, and of course [party members] could not refuse her.”

In a video released by the party, a mother is seen expressing gratitude for the gift, stating, “I wanted to buy it for myself, but you gifted me one just in time. I asked you for it, in principle.”

This comes as President Trump encourages peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, aiming for a ceasefire and lasting resolution to the lengthy conflict. As the term “meat grinder” epitomizes the harsh, high-casualty skirmishes, particularly in Bakhmut and Avdiivka, the war continues to grind on with immense losses and negligible territorial gains.

An analysis by the BBC estimates that since the war’s onset in February 2022, at least 95,000 Russians have perished, with hundreds of thousands more wounded. It’s important to note, however, that these numbers are speculative, and the actual toll could be significantly higher.
