Pro Basketball Player Writes Pro-Trump Message On His Head For Major Tournament

Former NBA player Royce White made a bold statement at the Big 3 basketball tournament, not just with his play but with his politics. The athlete-turned-political hopeful took to the court with “Free Trump” boldly written on his head over the weekend.

This comes after jurors in the New York criminal trial against former President Donald Trump convicted him of 34 felony counts of falsified business records. It marked the first time a former or sitting U.S. president has been convicted of criminal charges.

White, who is no stranger to making headlines, both for his basketball prowess and his controversial opinions, has recently announced his run for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota as a Republican. His choice to sport a pro-Trump message during the game aligns with his “America First” platform and his previous criticisms of what he called “global citizenship.”

His career journey has been anything but ordinary. White gained national attention as a high school basketball star in Minnesota, leading his teams to multiple state championships. His talents on the court earned him a spot at Iowa State.

White’s transition from college to the NBA was marked by his first-round selection by the Houston Rockets in the 2012 NBA draft. However, his professional career was plagued by his well-documented struggle with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, particularly his fear of flying, which became a significant barrier in his relationship with the NBA. His foray into politics began in 2022 when he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives in Minnesota’s 5th congressional district.

White’s Senate campaign comes at a time when Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), a well-established figure in Minnesota politics, is seeking her fourth term. Despite Klobuchar’s strong past performance in elections, White’s entry into the race is seen by some as a fresh, albeit controversial, challenge to the status quo.

However, Klobuchar maintains a strong financial cushion with $5.7 million in her campaign coffers. In contrast, White has managed to gather $10,000 according to CBS News. White has refuted claims of mismanagement of campaign funds and mentioned that he is currently updating those campaign filings. The endorsement from the Republican Party has bolstered his campaign with significant support, including financial contributions and staffing resources from the Minnesota Republican establishment.

While seeking support for his campaign in May, White criticized the political establishment and the substantial financial demands it places on candidates. “The reality is we need people now more than ever that can’t be bought,” White said. “I can’t stress that to you enough.”

During his address to the convention, White acknowledged his personal debt issues but chose not to revisit his previous legal troubles and court judgments. “I appreciate the committee and its process,” he said. “I hope we can change it in the future because the same reservations they had about me would surely fall on Donald Trump as well if he was running in this race.”
