A woke, BLM-supporting Portland-area Democrat County Commissioner has resigned amidst serious allegations. Clackamas County Commissioner Melissa Fireside faces 8 felony charges, including theft, identity theft, and forgery, related to stealing tens of thousands from an elderly man.
Melissa Fireside, elected in November 2024, allegedly committed these crimes in September 2024. The indictment outlines: “The defendant, on or between September 17, 2024, and September 26, 2024, in Clackamas County, Oregon, did unlawfully and knowingly commit theft of money, of the total value of $10,000 or more, the property of Arthur Wayne Petrone.”
Adding to the gravity, Fireside reportedly stole an additional $5,000 from Petrone. The indictment further states: “The defendant, on or between September 19, 2024, and September 26, 2024, in Clackamas County, Oregon, in a separate and distinct criminal episode from counts 1 and 2 above, did unlawfully and knowingly commit theft of money, of the total value of $1,000 or more, the property of Arthur Wayne Petrone. The State further alleges that the property stolen had a value of $5,000 or more.”
According to the charges, Fireside used forged signatures to wire $30,000 in promissory notes.
Here’s an excerpt from KOIN:
A Clackamas County commissioner accused of theft and forgery earlier this week has stepped down from her position after a fellow leader called for her to resign.
Clackamas County Chair Craig Roberts issued a statement urging Fireside’s resignation, which she submitted, effective immediately. Roberts expressed gratitude to the community for voicing their concerns and reassured them that the Board is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities.
The search for a new commissioner has already commenced, with a website outlining the hiring process. Roberts emphasized the importance of public involvement in this process.
Fireside took office in November, succeeding former county leader Mark Shull. Though the allegations surfaced publicly only this week, she was formally indicted on February 28 for charges including first-degree aggravated theft, identity theft, and forgery.
