Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu criticized President Donald Trump on CNN Friday, claiming the president has “lost focus in a big way” on what Americans care about most.
Appearing on “The Source,” Landrieu accused Trump of prioritizing foreign conflicts and events over kitchen-table economic issues voters elected him to address.
“The American public is like, get focused on my pocketbook because I’m hurting out here, and I don’t think this is a good look.”
Landrieu pointed to Trump’s campaign promises to end the Ukraine war within his first day in office and reduce household costs. The Democrat claimed Trump has instead spent his time on “chaotic moments” and “bombs and ballrooms and planes and UFC fights.”
The former mayor continued his criticism, saying Americans are frustrated while Trump focuses on what Landrieu characterized as distractions from pocketbook concerns.
“The American people are saying loudly and clearly that anybody that wants to listen to them, please focus on my pocketbook because I’m dying out here,” Landrieu said. “While you’re focused on ballrooms and UFC fights and dropping bombs and doing all this other stuff, and then trying to fix a pool that you can’t even fix. So now I’m pissed.”
Landrieu served as New Orleans mayor from 2010 to 2018 and later worked in President Biden’s administration as infrastructure coordinator.
