Massie Stands Firm Against Trump’s Primary Challenge Over Controversial Funding Bill

Libertarian-leaning Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is holding his ground as he faces a potential primary challenge, with none other than President Trump leading the charge against him.

Despite the pressure, Massie has remained a staunch critic of the Trump-endorsed funding bill, designed to prevent a government shutdown. Trump has been vocal, urging Republicans to back a continuing resolution (CR) to secure government funding through September.

Massie, however, criticizes the bill as a “Uniparty deal” that funds USAID but neglects the border wall. He stated:

“The CR is a UNIPARTY deal. It doesn’t fund the wall. It does fund USAID,” he wrote. “The democrats depart for a retreat on Wednesday, so they’ve already agreed to provide enough votes to pass the CR. Meanwhile, our election mandate will wane by this coming Sept.”

“I’m not voting for the Continuing Resolution budget (cut-copy-paste omnibus) this week,” he added.

Massie’s refusal to support the CR has angered Trump, who called for a primary challenge against Massie, likening him to Liz Cheney:

Trump didn’t stop there. Criticizing Massie for previous votes, Trump highlighted Massie’s decision to delay the debt ceiling bill from the Biden Administration to the Trump Administration:

“Congressman” Thomas Massie voted to delay the Debt Ceiling Bill from the Biden Administration to the Trump Administration (from September before the Election, to June after the Election!), without getting anything for this horrendously stupid move — When Republicans could have gotten EVERYTHING they wanted.

He additionally voted to delay the current Budget Disaster from the Biden Administration to the Trump Administration. I was running for Office at the time, doing my thing, and when I heard about this, it was, quite simply, hard to believe — A catastrophic mistake! Now, and virtually on every other vote, he’s a very simple, “NO.” He can’t even approve a Continuing Resolution when he approved them many times during his career as a “Congressman.”

Massie stood firm in his response to Trump, declaring he would not yield, even as he mentioned Canada:

“POTUS is spending his day attacking me and Canada,” Massie wrote on X. “The difference is Canada will eventually cave.”

He also corrected Trump’s claims regarding the CR, stating that he had never voted for a CR that was enacted into law. Additionally, Massie emphasized an 8% cut in discretionary spending in the debt ceiling bill mentioned by Trump.

Unlike Cheney, Massie holds strong support among MAGA conservatives who view him as a key player against the Deep State and big government. It’s essential for both Massie and Trump to unite against the globalists and radical leftists threatening to divide our great nation.
