Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced he supports in vitro fertilization — breaking with the state Republican Party platform that opposes the procedure.
The declaration comes as Paxton faces a tight Senate race against Democrat James Talarico. Democrats have attacked Paxton over the Texas GOP platform, which labels IVF among “destructive practices.”
“Strong families are the foundation of a strong nation. Every child is a blessing, and every family hoping to welcome a child deserves support and compassion. I am a strong supporter of IVF and pro-family policies that help Americans experience the wonders of parenthood.”
Paxton told the Texas Tribune his position on Thursday. The statement aligns him with President Donald Trump — who endorsed Paxton’s Senate campaign last month and calls himself the “father of fertility.”
Polls show the November general election remains competitive. Paxton’s centrist pivot on IVF marks a strategic shift as he works to lock down moderate voters in the battleground race.
The Texas Republican Party platform explicitly opposes IVF. Paxton’s break with that position puts him at odds with state party leaders but squares him with Trump’s national message on fertility and family policy.
