Jeff Metcalf says the media and activists are exploiting his son’s murder — and he’s had enough.
Austin Metcalf was stabbed to death at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April of last year. Karmelo Anthony was convicted of the murder.
Now Jeff Metcalf says the killer’s family has shown zero remorse — and worse, the media coverage has turned his son’s death into a spectacle.
“I know what happened was terrible, and your son made a horrible mistake. I was hoping for some accountability, maybe, and some remorse. Neither one was shown.”
Metcalf appeared on the Will Cain Show on Monday and described what the family has endured since the conviction.
Anthony’s family was absent during the sentencing and victim impact statements, according to Metcalf. No apology. No acknowledgment.
Instead, Metcalf says media outlets and activist groups have framed the story in ways that downplay the crime and ignore Austin’s life.
“They’re monetizing the death of my son,” he said, calling out the coverage that followed the murder trial.
The case drew national attention after Anthony was found guilty and sentenced. But for the Metcalf family, the fight for justice came with another battle: watching their son’s story distorted for clicks and political narratives.
Metcalf’s message to the media: stop using Austin’s death as a headline — and start telling the truth.
