AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – With the grand opening of Amarillo’s newest franchise Buc-ee’s, the economic growth it will bring to Amarillo will be impactful.

From residents stopping by and spending their hard earned money to tourists and travelers along I-40 and abroad, this franchise is set to bring a huge boost of revenue to Amarillo.

“Expecting about $8 million worth of revenue I think per year coming through there,” said Neil Meredith, professor of economics at West Texas A&M University. “So you would then anticipate tax revenue coming in from that. Then that would help benefit the local community.”

The approximately 400 people that were hired at Buc-ee’s are also earning a competitive wage that can in turn help boost employment numbers for Amarillo.

“Workers also will benefit in terms of their salaries. You’re going to have a lot of people who get employed and they take what they make from there and then they go and spend it around the businesses you know, elsewhere throughout Amarillo,” said Meredith.

Meredith also states that Amarillo’s economy is looking healthy and the addition of this franchise will further help boost employment and tax revenue for Amarillo.

Meredith says Buc-ee’s will also bring additional traffic to surrounding businesses.
