The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is urgently searching for a man accused of threatening to kill former President Donald Trump.
The suspect, identified as 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syrvud from Benson, Arizona, allegedly planned to shoot Trump during his visit to a part of the southern border this Thursday. The unsettling news comes just six weeks after another attempt on Trump’s life, where he narrowly escaped injury when a bullet grazed his ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Syrvud, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs about 220 pounds, is no stranger to the law. He’s not only wanted for this recent threat but also has several outstanding warrants. These include charges in Wisconsin for DUI and failing to appear in court, as well as a hit-and-run. He also failed to register as a sex offender in Graham County, Arizona, and is under an absconder hold for failing to do so according to KOLD 13 News.
As authorities intensify their search, the public has been urged to stay alert. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said that Syrvud should be considered a significant public safety risk.
Sheriff Mark Dannels of Cochise County heightened security measures in response to the threat to former President Trump. In a statement to the Daily Mail, Sheriff Dannels stressed increased security presence, noting the event’s location in an open venue and the necessity of such precautions to ensure safety.
“We have zero tolerance for any kind of threats or intents of violence, so we’ll find him. He’ll go to jail,” said Dannels. “He’s a registered sex offender here in Cochise County, and we were looking for him. He’s out of compliance as part of his violations. So we’re looking for him on that. We’re going to arrest him on that. But also the fact … his pulse was obviously directed toward this event. So we want to talk to him about that.”
Arizona authorities are urgently searching for Syrvud, who is believed to be hiding in the border region. Officials are making every effort to locate him quickly. During a campaign event in Asheboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday, the former president emphasized national security. Trump nostalgically remarked on his previous term, saying, “The entire world was safer when I sat behind that beautiful, Resolute desk in the Oval Office.”
Trump’s visit comes amid ongoing debates, with Democrats on Wednesday night defending their approach to border issues. On his Truth Social platform today, former President Donald Trump announced his plans to visit the southern border, stating, “Today, I am going to INSPECT THE SOUTHERN BORDER and to meet with the Victims whose Loved Ones were attacked and murdered by Illegal Aliens set free into America by Comrade Kamala Harris.”
He criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, the radical left Democrat presidential candidate, for her previous presidential run, noting she “didn’t receive one Vote and, in her earlier attempt to win against Crooked Joe Biden, was the first one out of 22 people to quit the Race, and never even made it to the first State, Iowa.”
Trump presented the upcoming election as a clear choice, claiming, “Comrade Kamala Harris will bring in hundreds of thousands more Illegal Alien Rapists, Drug Dealers, and Killers, but President Donald J. Trump will keep these same people out of our Country, and send them back to their Countries where they belong.” He emphatically added, “I WILL KEEP AMERICA SAFE! UNDER COMRADE KAMALA, AMERICA WILL BE THE MOST DANGEROUS COUNTRY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. IT WILL REVERT TO THIRD WORLD STATUS VERY QUICKLY!”
