Angel Dad Joe Abraham Joins ICE After Daughter Lost by Illegal Alien

Joe Abraham is taking the fight against illegal alien crime from the activist trenches straight into the federal government.

The Angel Dad whose 20-year-old daughter Katie was killed by an illegal alien drunk driver in Illinois just accepted the executive director role at ICE’s VOICE office — the federal agency tasked with supporting victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

“I am excited to accept the Executive Director role at VOICE because this is not simply a government position for me, it is deeply personal and rooted in a mission I have come to understand through unimaginable loss,” Abraham said.

“I want to use my experience, my voice and what I have learned through Katie’s story to make sure victims and their families are heard, treated with dignity and never become an afterthought in our immigration system.”

Katie Abraham and her friend Chloe Polzin were killed in January 2025 when Julio Cucul-Bol — a Guatemalan illegal alien — struck them in a drunken driving hit-and-run crash.

Cucul-Bol later pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. He’s now serving 30 years in prison.

Since Katie’s death, Abraham has become one of the most outspoken voices calling for border security and aggressive immigration enforcement.

He’s credited as the inspiration behind Operation Midway Blitz — a massive Chicago-area ICE operation from September to December 2025 that netted more than 4,000 arrests, according to DHS.

Democrats heavily protested the operation. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker — who runs one of the nation’s strictest sanctuary states — even called for criminal investigations into ICE agents over their conduct during the enforcement sweep.

White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis praised Abraham’s appointment.

“Angel Dad Joe Abraham is the perfect choice to lead the VOICE office,” she said. “Since the murder of his daughter, Katie, in a drunk driving hit-and-run in sanctuary Illinois, he has been a staunch advocate for victims of illegal alien crime and a powerful critic of the Democrats’ sanctuary policies.”

The VOICE office — Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement — was originally created under Trump’s first term, shut down by Biden, then revived by Trump in April 2025 upon his return to office.

Since reopening, the office has handled 897 total calls from victims, family members, and advocates, according to a June DHS report.

It has directly assisted 588 victims seeking help and information, plus 185 victim family members.

The most frequently reported crimes: assault (35%), rape and sexual assault (17%), and homicide and manslaughter (10%).

The Trump administration and Illinois Gov. Pritzker remain locked in a longstanding feud over his sanctuary policies.

In May, Illinois released an illegal immigrant convicted of child sexual abuse from jail despite ICE detainer requests. Bis — then DHS assistant secretary — torched Pritzker over it.

“Governor Pritzker continues to refuse to do his job to protect his citizens from illegal alien crime and instead chooses to smear our law enforcement,” she said. “Where is the investigation into his own policies that allowed this pedophile to be released from jail and be loose in Illinois communities?”

Abraham steps into the VOICE role with a mission shaped by tragedy — and a promise to make sure no other family’s loss becomes an afterthought.
