California Democrats just passed a law designed to silence independent journalists who expose their immigration-racket allies. Republican Assemblyman Carl DeMaio calls it the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” — and he’s right.
The bill’s defenders insist journalist Nick Shirley’s name “appears nowhere” in AB 2624. That’s technically true. It’s also irrelevant.
The law creates a special class of privileged people with extra privacy rights: immigration support services providers. Translation: the NGO grifters running California’s migrant resettlement machine on taxpayer dollars.
“You can engage in independent journalism, and you can investigate anybody you want. You just can’t ever mention their names.”
AB 2624 makes it illegal to “knowingly publicly post or publicly display, disclose, or distribute on the internet the personal information or image” of any immigration NGO employee, volunteer, or anyone living at their home address. The bill adds language about intent — the person posting has to intend to be mean — but it’s a transparent First Amendment nightmare.
Even if a judge eventually throws it out, the law still works as intended. An unenforceable statute you have to fight in court is still punishment delivered as process. The threat is clear: don’t you dare report on people with a corrupt patron-client relationship to California Democrats.
They do this because they can’t actually do anything. California Democrats are consumingly incompetent at governance — greedy, worthless grifters who make noise to cover shameful realities.
Case in point: In January, Governor Gavin Newsom proudly announced California’s high-speed rail project had entered the “track-laying phase.” He swaggered through a media tour, posting boastful videos.
Eight months later, the Wall Street Journal’s August 26 headline told the truth: “Years Late, Billions Over Budget: California’s High-Speed Rail Hasn’t Laid a Track.”
Loud, confident announcement to cover shameful reality. That’s how California is governed.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman — a Democratic Socialists of America ghoul running for mayor — posted this week about a crosswalk her office completed. Somebody requested it in late 2025. Her “incredible Field Team” took nearly a full calendar year to get yellow stripes painted on a street.

Look at the street itself. The yellow stripes were painted over deeply cracked, faded asphalt. No maintenance. Just painted symbols covering ruined infrastructure.
There is nothing serious these people know how to do. They seek power for power’s sake, suck resources, and congratulate themselves. Their instinct is to criminalize disagreement and criticism — which is exactly what AB 2624 does.
They did it poorly, because they do everything poorly, except scheming for self-interest.

Give them enough time and they’ll try to make it illegal to mention any of that.
Carl DeMaio made up the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” name and then sold it to MAGA as if it were real.
Nick Shirley’s name appears nowhere in AB 2624. It doesn’t stop him or any other “citizen journalist” from reporting or investigating.
