Ukraine Hits Russia’s Largest Satellite Hub Near Moscow — Second Strike in a Month

Ukrainian drones struck deep into Russian territory early Tuesday, hammering the Dubna Space Communications Center outside Moscow — the second time in a month Ukraine has hit Russia’s largest satellite and reconnaissance hub.

Dozens of drones rattled the Moscow region overnight Monday into Tuesday, delivering another blow to Russia’s military infrastructure. The coordinated strike targeted the communications center that supports much of Russia’s satellite systems and reconnaissance efforts in the war.

“Today, our long-range sanctions against Russia for this war once again reached the Dubna space communications center in the Moscow region. This is a special satellite communications facility used, in particular, for reconnaissance and for coordinating the activity of Russia’s occupation contingent in Ukraine.”

The Dubna facility is reportedly the largest space and satellite communications center in Russia and one of the largest in Europe. It plays an integral role in Russia’s reconnaissance operations against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the overnight drone campaign in a social media post Tuesday morning, touting the strike as part of Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” against Russian military targets.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin posted about the drone strike on Telegram Tuesday morning, claiming Russian air defenses destroyed 61 drones approaching Moscow since 8 p.m. Monday.

Russia claimed the strikes were part of a larger military campaign that hit multiple Russian targets early Tuesday, with officials alleging 419 drones were shot down by Russian air defense systems across the country, The Kyiv Independent reported.

Zelensky emphasized the reach of Ukraine’s long-range drones, noting the Dubna facility sits more than 500 kilometers from Ukraine’s border — roughly 310 miles deep into Russian territory.

“Recently, our Defense Forces of Ukraine already reached four such Russian centers, not only in the Moscow region but also in the Vladimir region,” Zelensky said. “Step by step, we are implementing our plan of long-range sanctions and making it as difficult as possible for the aggressor state to carry out its invasion operations against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories.”

Zelensky warned that more strikes on similar Russian facilities are being prepared as Ukraine continues to defend itself from Russian aggression.

Ukraine has inflicted significant damage on Russian infrastructure in recent weeks, hitting the capital city on multiple occasions and disrupting communication networks and energy infrastructure across the country.
