This afternoon, President Trump revealed his strategic decision to offer a significant tariff reduction to over 75 countries, marking a pivotal move on the international economic stage.
In a decisive action, Trump announced an immediate tariff increase on China to a staggering 125%, while simultaneously implementing a 90-day pause and reducing tariffs to 10% for over 75 other nations. The reasoning? China’s blatant “lack of respect for the World’s Markets,” as Trump shared on Truth Social.
Amidst a White House event celebrating auto racing champions, a reporter posed the pressing question on many minds: what prompted this shift in policy? Trump’s response, as always, was direct and unabashed.
“I’m thinking about why you decided to put a 90-day pause (on tariffs),” the reporter inquired.
Trump’s candid reply summed up his outlook: “Well, I thought people were jumping a little bit out of line; they were getting yippy,” he remarked, likening them to panic-stricken individuals, unlike the champions standing beside him. “A little bit afraid,” he added.

President Trump took the opportunity to remind everyone that it was high time someone defended America’s interests against unfair trade practices, particularly from China.
“We have a big job to do. No other president would have done what I did,” he emphasized. “What was happening to us on trade…not only China but others also…Somebody had to do it (impose tariffs) because it (the status quo) was not acceptable.”
Trump reiterated his stance against China’s trade practices, highlighting the substantial financial gains for America resulting from his tariffs. He optimistically predicted that China would eventually come to the negotiating table, ready to strike a fair deal.
