President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to voters across the globe Monday: experimenting with socialism leads to the chaos now unfolding in Spain, where thousands of migrants from Morocco stormed the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in late July.
Trump’s message came after Breitbart News asked what international voters should learn from Spain’s migrant crisis—a crisis the president says mirrors what Democrats allowed at the U.S. southern border under Joe Biden.
“Well, you have to be very careful with the whole socialist thing. I think in many cases it’s much more than socialist. They skipped socialism. They went directly to communism.”
The images out of Spain—thousands of migrants crossing from Morocco into Spanish territory—reminded Trump of the border catastrophe he inherited when he returned to office in January 2025.
Under Biden, the U.S. allowed an estimated 25 million illegal crossings. Trump said countries around the world sent people they didn’t want into America—including 11,888 convicted murderers, many guilty of multiple homicides.
“We had open borders, and countries all over the world—almost all of them—sent people that they don’t want into our country, and we’ve gotten a lot of them out, and we’re getting more, including murderers,” Trump said.
He contrasted that chaos with the dramatic turnaround at the border since his return: “In 15 months, not one person has come in through our southern border illegally. Now, that’s pretty amazing.”

Trump noted that concrete plazas once packed with hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants now sit empty—grass growing in the cracks. Would-be border crossers know they won’t get through, and if they do, they’ll be deported immediately.
The president acknowledged that his border success came so fast—30 days—that voters have moved on. Even his speechwriters tell him audiences don’t want to hear about the border anymore.
“Somebody said, ‘You should have taken a year and a half or two years to complete it because everyone forgets.’ Even my speechwriters, they say, ‘Sir, nobody wants to hear about the border anymore. You’ve done it. It’s an incredible job you’ve done, but nobody wants to hear about it.'”
Trump pointed to the 2016 border crisis as bad—but said what Biden allowed in 2024 was “the worst border maybe in world history.” Not even third-world countries would permit prisons and mental institutions to empty their populations across an open border, he said.
“People coming in from prisons and people coming in from mental institutions and people forced in by government, because these are the people that those governments, those countries, I know them all—they didn’t want, and they walked into our country totally unvetted, totally unchecked,” Trump said.
Not anymore. The president made clear: nobody enters illegally now. Only legal immigration is permitted—and Spain’s current disaster stands as proof of what happens when socialist governments open the floodgates.
