President Donald Trump’s administration is facing backlash over a newly negotiated deal with Iran that critics say abandons his hardline campaign promises and props up the terrorist regime in Tehran.
After months of military conflict failed to unseat Iran’s government, Trump handed negotiations to Vice President JD Vance, whose deal is drawing fire from foreign policy hawks who argue it gives Tehran major concessions while eroding U.S. standing.

Vance defended the agreement after spending two days smearing critics as unhinged warmongers who want endless war. The vice president contends opponents of the deal are pushing a false narrative.
Trump initially went to war with Iran expecting to quickly topple the regime. When those expectations failed to materialize and political costs mounted, the president reversed course and sought an exit.
The memorandum of understanding has drawn comparisons to previous Iran deals that conservatives criticized for making too many concessions to a hostile power. Critics argue the agreement not only legitimizes the regime but weakens American deterrence in the region.
The deal represents a sharp departure from Trump’s 2016 campaign rhetoric, when he blasted the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal and promised maximum pressure on Tehran.
