Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old from Houston, Texas, was tragically found strangled in a creek last month after suffering a two-hour assault, allegedly perpetrated by two illegal immigrants. As President Donald Trump addressed Congress on Tuesday night, the Democrats’ refusal to stand for key moments during the speech drew widespread criticism.

The Democrats’ apparent lack of respect and empathy extended to moments honoring a child battling cancer, victims of illegal immigrant violence, a fallen firefighter, and the capture of a terrorist responsible for killing 13 U.S. service members in Afghanistan. Their actions were seen as a shameful display of partisanship.

Alexis Nungaray, Jocelyn’s mother, joined Sean Hannity to express her disappointment at the Democrats’ behavior. Jocelyn suffered her fate in 2024, allegedly at the hands of illegal immigrants from Venezuela—a direct consequence of the open-borders policy of the Biden-Harris administration.

During the speech, President Trump promised to honor Jocelyn by renaming a Texas wildlife refuge after her. He said, “Last June, Alexis Nungaray’s 12-year-old daughter, her precious Jocelyn, walked to a nearby convenience store. She was kidnapped, tied up, and assaulted for two hours under a bridge and horrifically murdered. Arrested and charged with this heinous crime are two illegal alien monsters from Venezuela.”

“Released into America by the last administration through their ridiculous open border.”

President Trump continued, “The death of this beautiful 12-year-old girl and the agony of her mother and family touched our entire nation greatly. Alexis, I promised that we would always remember your daughter,” he said to her mother, who was a guest of First Lady Melania Trump, “And earlier tonight, I signed an order keeping my word to you.”

Trump then held up a copy of his executive order while Alexis expressed her gratitude with a mouthed, “Thank you.” However, the Democrats chose to remain seated.

In her interview with Hannity, Alexis Nungaray remarked, “I found it very cowardly that a lot of the Democrats didn’t stand. Didn’t clap. They didn’t do anything to support anything that Donald Trump is trying to do as president to make this country better.”

She concluded, “It was very shameful for the Democratic [Party].”
