JUST IN: Arizona AG Launches Investigation Into Trump For Comments On Liz Cheney

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is now reportedly investigating former President Donald Trump’s comments regarding former Rep. Liz Cheney as a possible “death threat” under state law. The inquiry, which centers on whether Trump’s remarks cross the legal threshold from political speech into intimidation or threat, comes as tensions continue to escalate in the political landscape, particularly in battleground states like Arizona.

The remarks in question occurred at a Trump rally in Glendale, Arizona, where Trump, referring to Cheney’s past support for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, said, “She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there, with nine barrels shooting at her, okay? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.” Liberals quickly pounced on his language, misinterpreting the comments as a call to violence against a political opponent.

Arizona’s AG Mayes, a Democrat, told NBC Phoenix’s Brahm Resnik that her office is scrutinizing Trump’s statements, especially in light of Arizona law, which criminalizes certain forms of intimidation and threats.

Mayes claimed that while it could be political speech, her office is assessing whether Trump’s statements crossed into illegal threats or intimidation, which could lead to misdemeanor or felony charges. She said that the investigation aligns with Arizona’s heightened security measures as law enforcement agencies work to ensure a safe voting environment amid a tense political climate in Maricopa County.

“This is how dictators destroy free nations,” Cheney wrote on X on Friday. “They threaten those who speak against them with death. We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant.”

“Even in my administration, she was pushing that we go to war with everybody,” Trump said on Friday in Michigan. “I said, if you ever gave her a rifle and let her do the fighting, if you ever do that, she wouldn’t be doing too well.”

He further clarified, “But she’s a war-hawk. She wants to go kill people unnecessarily. And if she had to do it herself and she had to face the consequences of battle, she wouldn’t be doing it. So it’s easy for her to talk… She’s actually a disgrace.”

Liz’s father, Dick Cheney, the former Vice President, is often considered one of the most prominent war hawks in recent American history. Known for his strong stance on military intervention, Cheney was a key architect of the Bush administration’s foreign policy, especially concerning the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Liz, now a vocal Trump critic, has found allies in the Democratic camp. In September during an event at Duke University, Cheney announced her support for Harris, claiming, “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution… I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”

“President Trump is absolutely right in saying that individuals like Liz Cheney are always ready to initiate wars and have other Americans fight them instead of fighting themselves,” said Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt. “This is just the newest false media scandal occurring right before the election, clearly aimed to influence the outcome in favor of Kamala Harris.”
