X owner Elon Musk joked that he is open to buying MSNBC after Comcast announced that they would be spinning the once valuable media asset into a separate package before selling.

Comcast announced Monday that it will be merging a number of cable assets, including news assets like MSNBC and CNBC, into a separate publicly traded company.

The new company will include the USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and the Golf Channel. Comcast will retain a number of NBCUniversal assets, including the Peacock streaming service, the NBC broadcast network, NBC News and the Bravo cable channel.

“The transaction will be structured as a tax-free spin to existing shareholders,” Comcast President Mike Cavanagh said in an internal memo. “While we don’t have a precise timetable for completing the transition, we are estimating that it will take approximately a year.”

The news comes just days after MSNBC’s ratings tanked by 53 percent after President-elect Donald Trump soundly defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election. Hyper-partisan network hosts had for months labeled the president-elect and his supporters as “threats to Democracy” while oftentimes comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler.

In the midst of the turmoil, Musk stated that he is once again open to radically altering the media landscape by purchasing the network. Musk previously turned the media landscape on its head when he purchased Twitter, which he later rebranded to “X,” in the name of preserving free speech.

The conversation started when President-elect Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., tagged Musk in a meme referencing the impending sale. “Hey @elonmusk I have the funniest idea ever!!!”  Trump Jr. wrote.

“How much does it cost,” Musk replied. The X owner later resisted the topic in a follow-up post, stating that purchasing the network would be “the most  entertaining outcome.”

Top-rated podcaster Joe Rogan also weighed in, stating that he would be open to contributing if the sale went through. “If you buy MSNBC I would like Rachael Maddow’s job,” Rogan wrote. “I will wear the same outfit and glasses, and I will tell the same lies.”

The sale comes as network personalities are reportedly embroiled in a “civil war,” with some hosts attempting to change course from extreme anti-Trump partisanship.“Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski met with the president-elect at Mar-A-Lago and vowed to cover his second term from a different perspective.

The unexpected meeting comes after Scarborough unequivocally stated that anyone who votes for Trump is voting for a “fascist.”

Washington Post opinion writer Jennifer Rubin — a rabid never Trumper and frequent network contributor — called for viewers to reconsider tuning into Morning Joe as a result of the meeting. “The market works great. You can stop watching Morning Joe anytime,” Rubin wrote on Monday evening.

If you don’t appreciate the audience you have, betray that audience, and lose their trust, you are going to lose lots of them. I have seen this movie.”
