Country Singer Takes Swipe At Trump, Ends Up Embarrassed

The sister of country music icon Dolly Parton stepped in it Sunday night after blasting President-elect Donald Trump for suggesting he would rule the streets under “Marshall Law,” prompting MAGA supporters to make a mockery of her.

Stella Parton, 75, fretted in a post on X that Trump sees himself as a dictator who won’t hesitate to engage the military to “control the population” and “round up illegal immigrants,” the latter which he has explicitly promised to do and which a majority of Americans support, according to recent polls. “When you bring out the Military to control the population in a country it’s called “Martial Law” and yes, Trump and his henchmen said they plan to do so to round up illegal immigrants! I saw it myself on network tv. And Trump thinks of himself as Marshall Dillon !” she wrote in a Monday morning post, which was accompanied by three skeptical emoji faces.

Her correction came after a Sunday evening post declaring Trump’s expected action amounts to “Marshall Law,” a misspelling which drew humorous reactions from other X users. “Is anyone else concerned about the incoming administration declaring Marshall Law? They’ve already said they plan to do so. Why isn’t President Biden doing something before January 20th?” Stella Parton initially wrote. “Marshall Law. These are not serious people,” wrote the DC Examiner’s Christopher Tremoglie. “MARSHALL LAW,” user Brian Onorio joked, posting a photo of West Virginia’s Marshall University campus.

Unlike her sister, Stella Parton has been outspokenly liberal in her nearly six decades of fame. In December 2020 she took a not-so-veiled shot at Trump, blasting “old moldy politicians” for mishandling the Covid-19 pandemic and sluggish vaccine rollout of Operation Warp Speed. Stella expressed anger that donations by Dolly and other celebrities in support of vaccine development weren’t being put to better use. “If a little Hillbilly singer like my big sister Dolly can invest in the vaccine then why the hell can’t some of you old moldy politicians pitch in a few million yourselves? I noticed you started getting vaccinated right away while people are starving and dying you Aholes,” she wrote at the time. A few hours later, she knocked religious communities for not doing their part to urge Americans to get vaccinated immediately.

“I haven’t heard of one Televangelist donating one damn cent to the research fund but they sure can fleece the flock and try to cast out demons when they are possessed themselves!” she wrote.

Two years later the “Four Little Letters” singer took aim at Kentucky state Sen. Stephen Meredith, a Republican, for criticizing an initiative to provide elementary children with free library books. “I’m outraged this morning that anyone, let alone a GOP Sen. Meredith from the great state of Ky. Would question my sister Dolly or even insinuate something sinister about the ‘Imagination Library’ program for children,” Stella Parton tweeted, the Courier-Journal reported at the time. “Appalachian people have been maligned as uneducated and to have a Senator from an Appalachian state even think much less say anything derogatory about this incredible program is appalling.”

“My big sister stays out of politics but this is an outrage!!” she continued. “I would like to see your IQ score Sen. Meredith along with at least a dozen more of you GOP nimrods. The next thing you know, you will be trying to burn children’s books!” She followed up in a statement the next day, saying Meredith and other Republican politicians concerned about the content of public libraries are trying to “indoctrinate our children.”
