Clay Travis just struck a deal that puts his new sports media venture in front of 25 million conservatives.
Just three weeks after launching Sport & State — a digital sports and culture network — Travis is partnering with The Daily Wire to distribute his content across Ben Shapiro’s massive conservative news platform. The speed of this partnership signals both the appetite for conservative-leaning sports content and Travis’s proven track record in building media brands that resonate with right-leaning audiences.
Sport & State’s sports coverage will now be featured on DailyWire.com, and “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” will soon stream to Daily Wire subscribers. This integration represents a significant expansion of The Daily Wire’s content offerings beyond its core political commentary, filling a gap in sports coverage that has long existed in conservative media.
The radio show reaches 7 million listeners across 550 stations in all 50 states, bringing substantial existing audience reach to the partnership from day one.
“We are looking to rapidly expand Sport & State and get our content in front of as many patriotic Americans as we can. The guys over at Daily Wire have been friends of mine for a long time, and I think this new venture is a perfect fit for collaboration.”
Travis previously founded OutKick before Fox acquired the company in a deal that reportedly valued the sports media outlet at approximately $50 million. His success in building OutKick from a blog into a nationally recognized brand demonstrated his ability to identify and serve an underserved market: sports fans who felt alienated by what they perceived as increasingly progressive stances from mainstream sports media. Now he’s building Sport & State from scratch — and he’s doing it with a clear conservative angle, applying lessons learned from his previous venture.
The timing of this partnership reflects broader shifts in the media landscape, where audience fragmentation and political polarization have created opportunities for niche platforms. Conservative media companies have experienced significant growth in recent years, with audiences seeking alternatives to traditional sports networks like ESPN, which has faced criticism from some viewers over its coverage of social justice issues in sports.
Daily Wire CEO Mike Richards said Travis is “one of the most talented in the industry at capturing an audience and building a brand.”
“We are building a coalition of smart and interesting commentators at the Daily Wire that will bring our audience sophisticated sports, culture, and political commentary — Clay has blended all three at Sport & State,” Richards said. This statement reflects The Daily Wire’s broader strategy of expanding beyond political news into lifestyle and entertainment content that aligns with conservative values.
The partnership gives Sport & State immediate national distribution while adding a daily sports franchise to The Daily Wire’s lineup, creating synergies that benefit both organizations. For Sport & State, the deal provides instant access to a massive established audience and infrastructure that would have taken years to build independently. For The Daily Wire, it fills a content category that its competitors in conservative media have largely neglected. Audiences can expect future collaborations and appearances involving talent from both companies, potentially creating cross-promotional opportunities that drive subscriber growth and engagement.
Travis said the move is about reaching conservatives where they already are, rather than trying to build a new audience from scratch in an increasingly crowded digital media environment.
“We have missionally aligned companies, so I am confident their audience is going to thoroughly enjoy what we are building at Sport & State,” he said. This alignment on values and audience demographics reduces the typical friction that can occur in content distribution partnerships.
The Daily Wire plans to celebrate the partnership at its BaRNC event in Dallas during this week’s Republican National Convention, using the high-profile political gathering to announce the collaboration to a concentrated audience of conservative media consumers and influencers.
The deal comes as The Daily Wire continues expanding beyond news into entertainment and lifestyle content. The company just launched its new Sunday show “The District Club” and will premiere “Run Hide Fight: Infidels” on September 16 — an ’80s-style action thriller where militants seize a college campus. This diversification strategy positions The Daily Wire as a full-service media platform rather than just a news outlet, creating multiple touchpoints with its audience throughout their daily media consumption.
