Talarico Denies Voter Fraud Exists — While Accused of Breaking Election Law Himself

Texas Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico claims voter fraud is “nonexistent” in Texas — while facing accusations he violated state election law to run for office.

The contradiction is stunning.

In a newly unearthed video from June 2021, Talarico told an Austin Chamber of Commerce webinar that Texans don’t commit voter fraud. “You are likely to get struck by lightning than to commit voter fraud in the state of Texas,” he asserted.

“Voter fraud is nonexistent in Texas. Based on all of the data, based on all of the evidence, everything that you look at, Texans don’t commit voter fraud.”

He was lying.

Texas has documented dozens of voter fraud convictions — including Monica Mendez, convicted of 26 felony counts for orchestrating a vote-harvesting operation on behalf of a subsidized housing corporation in Victoria County’s 2018 utility board election, according to the superseding indictment.

Then there’s the Gregg County illegal ballot harvesting scheme during the 2018 Democratic primary. And Zul Mirza Mohamed, charged with 106 felonies after forging absentee ballot applications as a mayoral candidate in Carrolton.

The Heritage Foundation’s Election Fraud Map documents many more.

But Talarico may need look no further for examples of election fraud than his mirror.

Records show Talarico used his mother’s Austin address to register to vote just eight days before the candidate filing deadline in December 2021 — an apparent violation of Texas election law, according to reporting first published by The Federalist.

The Texas Constitution requires candidates for the Texas House to have resided in the state for two years and at least one year in the district they’re running to represent. Sources say there’s no evidence Talarico lived at his mother’s home during the required period.

Why the sudden move? His original House district had been redrawn, making the seat much harder to hold for a Democrat.

Houston Public Media reported earlier this month that Talarico “voted in five elections using his parents’ address after purchasing a home for himself nearby, a practice that may have violated state voting laws.”

Talarico didn’t purchase his own home in the district until 2022 — after running in the party primary using his mother’s address on election forms. The three-bedroom property in Austin’s Windsor Hills neighborhood has an assessed value of $407,500.

His hypocrisy doesn’t stop there.

In 2021, Talarico told Fox News host Pete Hegseth — now Trump’s Secretary of War — “I oppose voter ID.” He’s in the extreme minority. Over 80% of American voters support laws requiring identification to vote, according to polling.

The state representative defended the 2021 Texas House Democrats’ political stunt when they fled to Washington, D.C. to deny majority Republicans a quorum on election law reform. The legislature ultimately passed the Texas Election Integrity Act anyway — including ID requirements for mail-in ballots and other security provisions.

Talarico called the law “immoral,” “anti-American,” and “anti-democratic.”

His Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, has vehemently defended the law from a multi-front barrage of leftist lawsuits.

Talarico compared voter fraud to males competing in women’s sports — calling both “a solution in search of a problem.” He said Republicans were engaged in “silly” debates about two issues that didn’t matter.

They matter a great deal to the Texans he hopes to represent in the U.S. Senate.

Polls show most Americans don’t want males competing in female sports. On Thursday, Riley Gaines, former NCAA swimmer and prominent advocate for women in athletics, endorsed Paxton, describing Talarico as a “far-left extremist who has refused to accept biological reality.”

He’s had trouble with the reality of voter fraud, too.

That’s to be expected from an election integrity denier.
