The lawsuit, championed by America First Legal (AFL) on behalf of EZAZ.org and Yvonne Cahill, a naturalized U.S. citizen and registered voter, has set the stage for this significant action. Founded by Trump’s advisor Stephen Miller, AFL argued that Arizona’s election officials were not upholding the law that demands proof of citizenship for voting in state and local elections. Additionally, counties must conduct monthly checks to verify the citizenship status of registered voters.
Thanks to this settlement, Arizona counties are now mandated to collaborate with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to authenticate the citizenship of voters who initially registered without documentation.
“This settlement is a great result for all Arizonans,” declared James Rogers, senior counsel at AFL, in a statement provided to Fox News.

Arizona’s current laws require proof of citizenship to vote in local or state contests, with counties having the duty to regularly verify the group known as “federal-only voters.” This includes nearly 50,000 individuals who registered without citizenship proof. These voters are restricted from participating in state or local races until their citizenship is verified.
Once a voter’s citizenship is confirmed, they will be transferred to the regular list, enabling them to vote in all elections. On the contrary, if they are discovered to be noncitizens, their registration will be annulled.
“This will help County Recorders find and remove any aliens from their voter rolls,” Rogers stated. “It will also potentially enfranchise federal-only voters whose citizenship is confirmed, permitting them to vote in state and local elections.”
Conservative activist Scott Presler, who played a pivotal role in Republican voter registration endeavors during the 2024 election cycle, described this as “monstrous, earth-shaking news.”

Arizona, particularly its populous Maricopa County, has long been viewed as ground zero for Democratic election fraud. The alleged cheating was especially rampant during the 2020 presidential election and the 2022 governor’s race, where election officials took days “counting” votes, only to declare Democrats as victors by razor-thin margins.
