On his very first day back in office, President Donald Trump took decisive action by terminating the use of the controversial CBP One app, dramatically reversing the course set by the previous administration. The app, which had been expanded and significantly misused under President Biden, allowed over 600,000 illegal immigrants to enter the United States by June 2024 through a so-called “legal” loophole.

In a strategic move reported in March, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) transformed the app into the CBP Home app, designed to facilitate self-deportation. This newly repurposed app now enables users to notify the U.S. Government of their intent to leave the country voluntarily.

President Trump’s administration has now harnessed this tool to deliver a direct message to users: leave the United States “immediately.”

According to a report by CBS, the administration is actively using the app to revoke the legal status of more than 900,000 individuals who entered the country under the Biden administration after securing appointments through CBP One. Users received a message terminating their parole status, urging them to leave the U.S. immediately or face a hefty fine of $998 per day for non-compliance.

But the Trump administration has started sending notices to those who entered through the CBP One system, informing them that their parole status is being terminated over 7 days.

The message from the Department of Homeland Security, as reported by CBS News, sternly warns: “If you do not depart the United States immediately, you will be subject to potential law enforcement actions that will result in your removal from the United States — unless you have otherwise obtained a lawful basis to remain here.”

This notification encourages migrants to utilize the same app that facilitated their entry into the U.S. to now sign up for self-deportation. The app is now aptly called CBP Home.

The notice further emphasizes: “Again, DHS is terminating your parole. Do not attempt to remain in the United States — the federal government will find you. Please depart the United States immediately.”
