In a dramatic turn of events, flight bookings between the U.S. and Canada have nosedived over 75% amid escalating trade tensions. With tariffs on Canadian goods and the bold ambition of making Canada the 51st state, bookings have plummeted 75.7%!

According to aviation experts at OAG, the data on this decline is shocking. When comparing summer season bookings from March 2024 to March 2025, the drop is staggering.

Aviation analytics company OAG has published some data on the decline in flight bookings between the countries, and it’s worse than most people probably imagined. Specifically, the company compared summer season bookings in March 2024 vs. March 2025.

For the crucial six-month period from April through September, the number of tickets booked is down dramatically. To put it in perspective:

  • In March 2024, 1,218,570 tickets were booked for April 2024.
  • In March 2025, only 295,982 tickets have been booked for April 2025.
  • This marks a 75.7% reduction in bookings.

This unprecedented drop has already led airlines to cut back the number of scheduled flights by 3.5%, an adjustment rarely witnessed. If this trend persists, further drastic changes to flight schedules are inevitable.

Historically, the U.S.-Canada corridor has been bustling, with countless travelers flying for business, tourism, and family reunions. However, the current state of relations is at its lowest in years. But there’s a glimmer of hope—change could be on the horizon with Canada’s upcoming general election.

The Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre, shares a closer ideology with the Trump administration compared to the Liberal Party’s Mark Carney. As Poilievre’s initial lead diminishes, Carney warns that he needs a “clear mandate” to stand firm against Trump’s administration, which he claims seeks to dominate Canada.
