In an unfortunate turn of events, King Charles III has been taken to the hospital following a reaction to his cancer treatment. Battling an undisclosed form of cancer for over a year, the 76-year-old British Monarch has shown immense resilience, continuing to carry out his royal duties. Despite needing to curtail some public engagements initially, he has persisted in staying active in his role.
Earlier today, the King was brought to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The Associated Press has reported:
“King Charles III was hospitalized for observation on Thursday after experiencing ‘temporary side effects’ related to a scheduled cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace said in a statement. His engagements for Thursday afternoon and Friday were canceled.”
King Charles has since returned to Clarence House post-treatment. According to the palace’s statement, “His majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled. His majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
NBC News echoed these developments:
“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.”
Despite his health challenges, reports from the New York Times indicate that Charles has maintained an active schedule, engaging with global leaders and fulfilling royal duties. His cancer journey began after surgery for an enlarged prostate, with the palace clarifying that it is not prostate cancer but withholding further details on the illness. This stands in contrast to his daughter-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales, who shared her cancer-free status earlier this year after battling her own health challenges.
