Justice is finally creeping closer for the young athlete who showed no sportsmanship, viciously attacking her rival. Yet, shockingly, she has garnered some supporters in the process.

Previously reported was the harrowing incident at a Virginia track race. Brookville High School’s rising star, Kaelen Tucker, was competing in the 4×200 meter relay during the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships at Liberty University in Lynchburg. Fresh off winning a silver medal in the 55m dash, her race took a violent turn.

Tucker, blazing through her leg of the race, was attempting to secure her position when an athlete from IC Norcom High School in Portsmouth brutally intervened. In an appalling act, she pulled back and struck Tucker on the head with her baton. The shocking attack left Tucker staggering off the track, clutching her head, and collapsing as the crowd looked on in horror. The severe blow resulted in a concussion and possibly a skull fracture.

Alaila Everett, the aggressor, astonishingly claimed that the video evidence was misleading, resorting to a far-fetched narrative to defend her actions.

“After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back. I lost my balance when I pumped my arms again. She got hit,” Everett stated to WAVY.

“I know my intentions and I would never hit someone on purpose,” she continued.

However, authorities are not swayed by her claims. As reported by WAVY, Everett now faces charges of assault and battery for the attack on Tucker, as confirmed by the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Office to the Daily Mail.

In a surprising twist, the Portsmouth NAACP has come forward defending Everett. In a statement released in all caps, they declared, “Alaila is NOT AN ATTACKER.”

The statement criticized the media’s portrayal and condemned alleged racist remarks directed at Everett, adding, “She has carried herself with integrity both on and off the field and any narrative that adjudicates her guilty of any criminal activity is a violation of her due process rights.”

In the face of undeniable evidence, some choose denial. For the sake of justice, let’s hope the courts see through Everett’s excuses.
