Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has taken an unexpected stand, criticizing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) for backing down on the spending bill and urging Democrat Senators to oppose the stopgap measure he supports.

Pelosi emphatically stated, “Democrat Senators should listen to the women,” and emphasized the importance of defying Schumer’s decision.

“Democratic senators should listen to the women. Appropriations leaders Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray have eloquently presented the case that we must have a better choice: a four-week funding extension to keep government open and negotiate a bipartisan agreement,” Pelosi said in a remarkable statement.

Pelosi further criticized previous shutdowns under President Trump, suggesting that current legislation aggravates the situation. She urged Democrats to reject what she called a “false choice,” and encouraged them to strive for a better solution.

“America has experienced a Trump shutdown before – but this damaging legislation only makes matters worse. Democrats must not buy into this false choice. We must fight back for a better way. Listen to the women, For The People,” she urged.

The Speaker Emerita also directed her criticism toward President Trump and Elon Musk, while commending House Democrats for their stance against the spending bill.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk have offered the Congress a false choice between a government shutdown or a blank check that makes a devastating assault on the well-being of working families across America. Let’s be clear: neither is a good option for the American people. But this false choice that some are buying instead of fighting is unacceptable. I salute Leader Hakeem Jeffries for his courageous rejection of this false choice, and I am proud of my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus for their overwhelming vote against this bill.”

Chuck Schumer found himself in the hot seat on Thursday after he conceded to supporting the House-passed spending bill.

A clearly stressed Schumer, during an MSNBC interview with Chris Hayes, even went as far as calling Republicans “bastards” in a desperate attempt to defend his decision.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes stated,

“The only people they — the only thing they understand is meeting conflict with conflict. So if you look at Doug Ford in Ontario, who banged the table and said, ‘You’re gonna tariff us? I’m gonna tariff you, we’re gonna put a surcharge on electricity,’ — that’s the only thing that gets their attention. The only thing that gets them to back down is meeting conflict with conflict. If you meet conflict with essentially managed retreat or strategic non-engagement, then they roll all over you!”

Schumer responded with intent.

Schumer chimed in:

“No, Chris, we are going to conflict with them on everything — on the tax cuts for the billionaires. They’ve become a plutocracy. An oligarchy. On Medicaid, we have plans to conflict them with all of that. If the shutdown occurred we wouldn’t be able to do that because they would fill up both the Senate and the discussion on whether we should cut this and not cut that of things that they want to cut.”

Schumer made an attempt to retract his harsh language, calling Republicans “bastards” before apologizing.

He stated,

“So to have the conflict on the best grounds we have summed up in a sentence that they’re making the middle-class pay for tax cuts for billionaires, It’s much, much better not to be in the middle of a shutdown which could divert people from the number one issue we have against these bastards! – Sorry, these people,”

Schumer said.
