Disney’s attempt to revamp the classic tale of Snow White with a modern twist seems to be faltering at the box office. The live-action remake, burdened by a colossal $250 million budget, is predicted to rake in merely $45 million during its opening weekend.
The Wrap reported:
The latest drought plaguing the box office has only been relieved somewhat by Disney’s “Snow White,” which earned $16 million from 4,200 theaters on its opening day and is earning a tepid $48 million opening weekend.
This performance barely aligns with pre-release forecasts of a $45-$50 million launch. Yet, to cover its substantial production and marketing costs, the film will require exceptional staying power, an optimistic scenario given the lukewarm audience reception. The movie has earned a B+ on CinemaScore, a first for a Disney remake to fall below an A- from opening day viewers.
In addition to mixed reviews, the film has been embroiled in controversies, largely due to the remarks of lead actress Rachel Zegler. Zegler stirred the pot by dismissing the 1937 classic, labeling Prince Charming as a “stalker” and advocating for a feminist angle where Snow White aspires to be a “leader” rather than pursuing romance.
With the epitome of go woke, go broke @Disney have splurged $300 million on an updated Snow White. Apparently as explained by lead actress Rachel Zegler Prince Charming is stalker, she wants power not love. The 7 dwarfs become one and the others are woke cliches.

Zegler’s outspoken left-wing positions have also alienated some audience members. Post-President Trump’s election victory, she publicly bashed Trump supporters, claiming they “should not know peace,” reflecting deep disdain for his administration.
There is a deep, deep sickness in this country that is shown in the sheer amount of people who showed up for this man who threatens our democracy. May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.
Additionally, Disney’s decision to replace the beloved seven dwarfs with a diverse array of non-dwarf characters, following Peter Dinklage’s critique of the original portrayals, has sparked further debate. Critics argue this change overlooks opportunities for dwarf actors and dilutes the original narrative where the dwarfs’ kindness aids Snow White’s survival.
