A group claiming to represent grassroots conservatives opposing new AI data centers enlisted Green Party figures, Democratic activists, and even a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation to organize nationwide protests — putting the movement in direct conflict with President Donald Trump’s economic agenda.
Humans First bills itself as a “conservative social movement” led by Tea Party veteran Amy Kremer. But Fox News Digital found the organization’s July 18 protest coordinators included a transgender Green Party congressional candidate, progressive environmental groups, and Democratic state legislative candidates.
The disconnect raises questions about who’s really funding the anti-data-center push — and why.

Incorporation records show Humans First didn’t start with Kremer or any conservative. The initial employees listed were staffers from the Center for AI Safety, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that also provided startup capital via a loan, NBC News previously reported.
The group’s protest webpage listed the Illinois Green Party as organizers for a demonstration outside Chicago. That same Green Party chapter supports solidarity with Cuba, divesting from Israel, expanding abortion access, decriminalizing prostitution — and impeaching Trump.
Another listed organizer: Alexandria Keating-Sofiakis, a transgender Green Party congressional candidate whose campaign backs the Green New Deal, Medicare-for-all, and ending U.S. support for Israel. Kremer herself has repeatedly posted critical messages about transgender issues on social media.
Keating-Sofiakis told Fox News Digital the collaboration works because “data centers are a cross-partisan problem.”
“From a conservative worldview, the drop in property values, increase in water costs, as well as increase in electrical costs that are affiliated with data centers are all antithetical to conservative values,” Keating-Sofiakis said.
In Georgia, Humans First’s protest page listed People for Progress — a group founded after the 2024 election explicitly to resist Trump’s agenda and protect “diversity, equity & justice.”
In Missouri, the featured speakers at a Humans First event included a former Democratic state lawmaker, a current Democratic candidate for the state legislature, and a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, according to a press release obtained by Fox News Digital.
Lady Huston, one of the Missouri organizers, told Fox News Digital that Humans First hosted weekly Zoom meetings and sent mass emails with directions. She praised Sen. Josh Hawley’s statements on data centers: “I never thought I’d care about anything this man had to say. But he is in tune with what’s happening with AI.”
In Michigan, Humans First originally listed Mitchell Distin, a Democrat running for state House, as a protest organizer — then scrubbed the event from its webpage. Fox News Digital reviewed the page before removal.
“While you are correct in your assessment that I am, by no means, conservative, the data center issue isn’t a left-right issue,” Distin said.
At the bottom of the Humans First protest webpage, the organization noted the events have not “necessarily” been “fully vetted or endorsed by Humans First.”
Fox News Digital obtained footage of five Humans First protests across California, Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina. Multiple demonstrators at the Gilroy, California event carried signs protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement — a common target of the left. Some protests were sparsely attended.
Kremer defended the group’s credentials when reached by Fox News Digital.
“This line of attack is preposterous but not surprising. This is exactly the same line of attack we saw during the early days of the Tea Party,” Kremer said. “The establishment and their handmaivers in the media were willing to smear Tea Party activists as racists and bigots in their effort to defend the big interests of their corporate masters.”
She added: “Instead of questioning our conservative credentials, how about asking how any so-called conservative can take money from the same big tech and big AI billionaires who have worked tirelessly to destroy the conservative movement over the last 10 years.”
Most of the official staff listed on Humans First’s website have conservative backgrounds. Cathy Latham, a longtime Georgia GOP official and one of the 18 defendants indicted alongside Trump in Georgia’s 2020 election-interference case, organized a July 18 protest in Waco, Texas.
Humans First claimed after July 18 that it helped organize 142 protests across 42 states.
The anti-data-center push directly opposes Trump’s priority of accelerating the data-center buildout needed to power America’s AI race — a cornerstone of his economic agenda.
Kremer told the Washington Examiner in May she’s disgusted by AI companies spending millions on lobbying.
“I’m not for sale,” she said. “When I do something, I pour my whole heart and soul into it.”
