The pursuit of peace in the ongoing Ukraine conflict remains a top priority, but it’s not the only dialogue between the United States and Russia. These discussions have expanded into a new and promising domain: economic cooperation.
Breaking news highlights that the US and Russia are engaging in talks about ‘joint rare earth metals and other projects in Russia’. This collaboration could herald a new era of prosperity for both nations.
Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s Special Envoy on International Economic and Investment Cooperation, shared today that businesses are keenly interested in these initiatives.
Amid efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine, minerals cooperation has been floated by both Kiev and Moscow, though Trump said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wants to back out of a proposed deal.
Putin in February suggested that the United States might be interested in exploring joint exploration for rare earth metals deposits in Russia, which has the world’s fifth-largest reserves of the metals used in lasers and military equipment.

In an interview with Izvestia, Dmitriev confirmed that discussions have commenced, focusing on rare earth metals and other ventures in Russia.
Dmitriev was a key figure in the Russian delegation meeting with the US in Saudi Arabia this past February.
China currently holds a staggering 95% of the world’s rare earth metals production and supply. This dominance presents a security concern for industries such as defense and consumer electronics, propelling other nations to secure their own resources.
