In a bold move for American health policy, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is reportedly poised to dismantle the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP). This decision is part of a broader strategy to cut 20,000 employees from HHS. The legacy of former NIAID director Anthony Fauci, which includes controversial COVID-19 and AIDS responses, is being critically re-evaluated under Kennedy’s leadership.
The Office of Minority Health, which focuses on the health of black and minority groups, is also slated for elimination. Its online presence has already been erased, signaling imminent shutdown.
Since assuming his role, RFK Jr. has launched efforts against vaccine corporations, aiming to combat the surge in childhood autism and other harmful effects linked to vaccinations. As highlighted by President Trump in his recent address to Congress, autism rates in children have skyrocketed, becoming nearly 300 times more prevalent than in previous years.
Kennedy’s proactive approach includes requesting the CDC to investigate the potential connection between vaccines and autism.

Additionally, his department has halted a $240 million contract initiated by the Biden administration aimed at developing an oral COVID-19 vaccine.
Amidst challenges like the COVID pandemic, the AIDS crisis, and alarming autism rates, a reevaluation of government’s role seems necessary. Perhaps reducing, rather than expanding, federal oversight is the answer, reflecting a core conservative belief in limited government intervention.
According to CBS News:
Much of the government’s efforts to buoy lagging childhood vaccination rates nationwide have been run through OIDP, including a new campaign called “Let’s Get Real” that had launched in the final months of the Biden administration to provide resources and information to health care providers talking to hesitant parents.
The “Let’s Get Real” campaign sought to educate parents on vaccine safety and efficacy. However, with the planned dissolution of the Office of Minority Health and the restructuring of OIDP, the Trump administration plans to consolidate these functions into a new HHS entity, the Administration for a Health America (AHA).
