In a bold move, EPA Chief Lee Zeldin confirmed a significant cancellation of over $22 billion in contracts. Notably, this includes a hefty $2 billion that was awarded to a nonprofit connected to Stacey Abrams. This decision comes amid an ongoing legal battle.
“The EPA has now cancelled over $22 billion worth of contracts — $2 billion going to this NGO that Stacey Abrams was tied to. They received only $100 in 2023 and then the Biden administration gave them $2 billion — The director of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund saw his former employer get $5 billion — So $20 billion went to just eight NGOs,” Lee Zeldin stated during a Cabinet meeting on Monday.

Recently, a federal judge temporarily blocked Zeldin’s efforts to reclaim $20 billion from the Biden EPA’s slush fund. Judge Tanya Chutkan, an Obama appointee, ruled against the immediate retrieval of funds that are currently being held at Citibank for eight separate ‘green’ nonprofits.
The judge’s temporary restraining order (TRO) halted Zeldin’s attempts to recover the money. “When the court asked EPA to proffer evidence justifying its decision given the terms of the agreement, its only response was to refer to the termination letter, which gave no legal justification for the termination,” Judge Chutkan wrote in her ruling.
Previously, Zeldin had informed the recipients of the Biden EPA’s $20 billion grants that their funding had been terminated. “It is my commitment to President Trump, Congress, and you, that EPA will be an exceptional steward of your tax dollars. I’ll have it no other way!” Zeldin asserted.
The funds were initially distributed under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). Citibank had previously agreed to freeze the grants earmarked for the eight nonprofits.
According to AP, these financial awards were designated for organizations including “Coalition for Green Capital, Climate United Fund, Power Forward Communities, Opportunity Finance Network, Inclusiv, and the Justice Climate Fund.”
