Patriots, brace yourselves. What could be a sign of China’s aggressive plans for Taiwan has surfaced. These so-called “invasion barges” have been spotted in action, and the implications are deeply concerning.
According to the War Zone, videos circulating on social media reveal three of these massive barges in operation. These aren’t ordinary vessels; each one boasts an extended road span reaching over 120 meters (393 ft) from the front. Such a design allows them to access a coastal road or firm ground beyond a beach.
Naval News describes the aft end as an open platform, accommodating other ships to dock and unload. Notably, some barges feature ‘jack up’ pillars, providing stability even under harsh weather conditions by acting as a pier for unloading trucks and tanks from cargo ships.

This military innovation echoes the Allied Mulberry Harbours of World War II, used to offload men and material for the liberation of Europe. Contrary to the temporary pier President Joe Biden hastily ordered off Gaza’s coast, which crumbled in rough waters, these barges can be stabilized, albeit at the risk of becoming stationary targets.
The strategic advantage? The long reach of these extensions suggests that Taiwan’s previously unsuitable invasion points are now within reach.
Dr. Emma Salisbury, a Sea Power Research Fellow at the Council on Geostrategy, highlights the logistical need for a massive fleet to transport personnel and equipment across the Strait in any invasion effort. She anticipates a build-up of ship construction as part of China’s potential preparation.
China, claiming Taiwan as its own since the Communist revolution in 1949, has repeatedly flexed its military muscles around the island. Despite the lack of formal diplomatic ties, the United States has supported Taiwan’s independence with consistent arms sales.
Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun’s recent statements underline Beijing’s firm stance: “The Chinese People’s Liberation Army… will act resolutely and forcefully at all times to curb the independence of Taiwan.” He declared, “Whoever dares to split Taiwan from China will be crushed to pieces.”
Former Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday warned that China is not just talk. Their actions over the past two decades have consistently met and exceeded their promises. While former U.S. Indo-Pacific Commander Adm. Phil Davidson suggested 2027 as a possible invasion year, Gilday believes it could happen sooner.
