In a remarkable act of bravery, whistleblower David Nelson, an IRS tax examiner, has sounded the alarm on the agency’s outdated systems, only to face swift retaliation. As reported by James O’Keefe, Nelson’s access to critical network systems was revoked shortly after he spoke out.

Nelson revealed the reality of the IRS’s operational challenges to O’Keefe Media Group, painting a grim picture of antiquated systems and lack of funding for significant improvements. “We can’t do anywhere close to what the American people think we can,” said Nelson, emphasizing the agency’s reliance on outdated technology.

He described the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), the software at the heart of IRS operations, as severely outdated, leading to inefficiency and unnecessary workforce expansion. “We could probably reduce the size of the IRS substantially with changes, programs, a centralized inventory system, replacing IDRS,” Nelson confidently stated.

Despite these bureaucratic hurdles, President Trump has taken decisive steps to streamline the federal workforce, resulting in the layoff of 6,000 IRS employees last month, with plans to cut up to 50% of the workforce.

Unfazed by potential career repercussions, Nelson declared, “I’m not afraid of losing a career. I’ll fall on the sword if it means I can help the American people and help everyone else at the IRS who are doing their jobs.”

The IRS’s reaction was swift. Nelson’s network access was revoked on Thursday, a move seen as retaliatory. When O’Keefe sought a comment from the IRS Chief of Media, his questions were met with silence and the abrupt hang-up of the phone.
