Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his gratitude to President Donald Trump on Thursday for his pivotal role in advancing the Ukraine peace settlement.
President Trump has long maintained that under his leadership, the Russian invasion of Ukraine would have never commenced, and he consistently expressed confidence in brokering a peace agreement between the involved nations.
Following a significant meeting with Belarusian President Lukashenko, Putin surprised many geopolitical analysts by endorsing the ceasefire plan.
The Telegraph reported:
“Vladimir Putin has agreed to a US plan for a short-term ceasefire, but with specific conditions. The Russian president said: ‘We agree with the proposals for the ceasefire, but our position is based on the assumption the ceasefire will lead to a long-term peace’.”
Moreover, President Putin expressed gratitude towards President Trump for his dedication to the Ukraine settlement and efforts to foster peace in the region.
Vlad Putin: First of all, I’d like to start with words of gratitude to the President of the United States, Mr. Trump, for paying so much attention to the Ukraine settlement. All of us have a lot on our plate, but many state leaders, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Republic, the Prime Minister of India, the President of Brazil, and South African Republic, all pay a lot of attention and devote a lot of time to this issue, and we’re thankful. And we’re all thankful to them because it’s all aimed at the noble cause of stopping hostilities and stopping human casualties.
JUST IN: Russian President Putin thanks US President Trump for “paying so much attention to the Ukraine settlement.”
