The patriotic spirit of America remains strong as Vice President JD Vance takes a bold step on the global stage. On Tuesday, Vance announced he will accompany his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, to Greenland this week. This follows President Trump’s strategic interest in Greenland as a key asset for U.S. national security. Although Usha’s original plan to attend a dogsled race has been canceled, she will join the Vice President in a more crucial mission—meeting with our valiant U.S. servicemembers at Pituffik Space Base.
This decisive move comes in response to Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede’s criticisms. Egede voiced his concerns about the visit by Usha Vance, National Security Advisor Michael Walz, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, viewing it as a power play. He emphasized the importance of respecting Greenland’s integrity and democracy.
Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen also chimed in, noting that the timing of the visit coincides with Greenland’s recent elections, which left the country without a formal government.
Looking forward to visiting Greenland on Friday!

In a statement, the White House revealed:
Vice President JD Vance Announces Visit to Pituffik Space Base in Greenland
On Friday, Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance will make their way to the Pituffik Space Base in Greenland. They will receive a briefing on Arctic security issues and meet with our dedicated U.S. servicemembers. Pituffik Space Base holds the honor of being the Department of Defense’s northernmost installation. Operated by the United States Space Force’s 821st Space Base Group, it plays a pivotal role in missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance missions.
The strategic partnership between the United States and Greenland has been a cornerstone of our national and economic security. During World War Two, the United States established over a dozen military bases in Greenland to defend the North Atlantic. As we faced the Soviet threat during the Cold War, additional resources were committed to Greenland. Past neglect by Danish leaders has allowed adversaries to advance their interests in the region. President Trump is turning the tide.
The Vice President and Second Lady’s visit to Pituffik Space Base will replace the Second Lady’s previously announced visit to the Avannaata Qimussersu dogsled race in Sisimiut.
President Trump had this to say about Greenland during his March 4 Joint Address to Congress:
And I also have a message tonight for the incredible people of Greenland. (Laughter.) We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and, if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America.
We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it. But we need it, really, for international world security. And I think we’re going to get it. One way or the other, we’re going to get it.
We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.
It’s a very small population but very, very large piece of land and very, very important for military security.
According to the Department of Defense, Pituffik Space Base, formerly known as Thule Air Base, is situated in Greenland, a country part of the Kingdom of Denmark. With a population of approximately 56,000, Greenland spans nearly 840,000 square miles, with over 80 percent covered by ice. Despite being locked in by ice for most of the year, Pituffik SB operates all year round.
The base, renowned for its strategic “Top of the World” location, is instrumental in supporting missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance. The 12th Space Warning Squadron and 23rd Space Operations Squadron, Detachment 1, tirelessly work to ensure America’s space superiority.
