In a bold statement from the Oval Office on Monday, President Trump expressed enthusiasm for a hypothetical 2028 presidential race against former President Barack Obama. Trump made it clear that he would “love” such a challenge, should Obama decide to run for a third term.
During the session, Fox’s Peter Doocy questioned President Trump about the possibility of Democrats backing Obama for another presidential run in 2028, considering recent discussions about Trump’s potential third term. With characteristic confidence, Trump revealed that there are multiple strategies to facilitate his third-term candidacy, stating, “I’m not joking.”
However, the President emphasized his current focus, saying it’s “far too early to think about” the future. Speculation suggests one possible strategy might involve Ohio Senator JD Vance running for office and stepping aside for Trump. Yet, Trump remained tight-lipped, refusing to divulge further details.
Steve Bannon, a trusted advisor to Trump and host of the War Room, shared his conviction with News Nation’s Chris Cuomo, affirming, “I’m a firm believer that President Trump will run and win again in 2028.” This statement echoes his remarks at CPAC in February, showcasing unwavering support for a Trump 2028 campaign.
In addition to these developments, GOP lawmakers are considering amending the 22nd Amendment. Spearheaded by Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN), the Third Term Project aims to allow presidents to be elected up to three times, provided their previous terms were non-consecutive. This move is seen as particularly advantageous for Trump, who remains the only living ex-president with non-consecutive terms.
Advocates argue that a third Trump term could “reverse the nation’s decay and restore America to greatness.”
President Trump himself suggested that a potential race with Obama would be “a good one,” acknowledging the public’s interest in his candidacy. “People are asking me to run,” he noted, while modestly admitting he hasn’t yet explored the legalities of such a move.
Emphasizing his achievements, Trump highlighted the administration’s accomplishments in tariffs and foreign investments, stating, “I think we’ll be at $5 trillion very soon.”
Doocy: I know it’s hypothetical right now, but if you are allowed, for some reason, to run for a third term, is there a thought the Democrats could try to run Barack Obama against you for his third term?
Trump: I’d love that. I’d love that. That would be a good one. I’d like that. People are asking me to run, and there’s a whole story about running for a third term. I don’t know. I never looked into it. They do say there’s a way you can do it, but I don’t know about that. But I have not looked into it. I want to do a fantastic job. We have four years, just about. Almost close to four years.
Time is flying, but it’s still close to four years, and we’re getting a lot of credit for having done a great job in the first almost 100 days. And we have some big things we’re going to be announcing over the next two days that you know very well, Peter, and I think it’s going to be something that’s going to bring a lot of wealth back to our country, tremendous wealth back to our country, actually.
