In a bold move by the Trump administration, funding cuts have been enacted for Australian universities promoting gender ideology. However, 19 animal research facilities across Australia still benefit from U.S. taxpayer dollars through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This includes funds flowing to universities like Monash University and the University of Sydney, where funding cuts are already underway as part of President Trump’s ban on diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) projects.
The diligent watchdogs at White Coat Waste have unearthed several grants allocated for animal testing in Australian labs. Here’s a look at some of the major grants funded by American taxpayers:
- A $4.9 Million FDA Contract for COVID-19 Animal Models: Awarded in 2021 by the Biden administration, this initiative aims to fortify animal-based research on COVID-19. The project, funded through the FDA, is set to continue until September 2026. View contract.
- $6 Million NIH Contract for Opioid Research on Dogs: This contract supports testing KNX100 for opioid withdrawal by a private Australian drug company, with funding lasting until May 2026. View contract.
- $2.7 Million Fauci-Funded Smoking Experiments on Mice: The University of Melbourne, under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Fauci, received a grant in 2020 for experiments forcing mice to inhale cigarette smoke and expose them to viruses like H1N1. This funding is secured until May 2025. View grant.
- $9 Million TB Vaccine Testing on Monkeys and Mice: Awarded to the University of Sydney in 2022, this grant funds tuberculosis vaccine tests on monkeys and mice, scheduled to run until September 2027. View grant.
- $10 Million for Alcohol Abuse Studies on Rodents: Over a 25-year period, the University of Sydney has been studying alcohol abuse on rodents, with experiments including “drinking-in-the-dark” involving skull drilling. This grant is active until June 2028. View grant.
According to the NIH’s project reporter tool, these laboratories participate in a network receiving over $30 million in active funding for various investigations.
“American taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to fund foreign aid to Australian animal labs to get animals drunk, force them to breathe cigarette smoke, infect them with the flu, COVID and tuberculosis, and poison them with experimental drugs,” Justin Goodman, senior vice president of WCW, stated. “Australia has one of the world’s largest economies and shouldn’t be wasting our money on stupid and cruel animal tests. The solution is simple: Stop the money. Stop the madness!”
In a victory for taxpayer accountability, the Trump administration recently cancelled a controversial NIH grant studying overdoses of the party drug GHB on transgender subjects. Worth $1,155,503, this grant involved procedures such as castrating male rats and injecting female rats with hormones to assess overdose risks. Following White Coat Waste’s revelations, President Trump has cut funding for 10 NIH grants supporting transgender animal experiments.
