Guest Post by Pro-life Leader Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life
In the relentless pursuit of protecting life, the pro-life movement is steadfast in its mission to safeguard babies, parents, and society from the devastating repercussions of abortion. A crucial part of this battle is ensuring our taxpayer dollars are not used to fund this industry.
Recent meetings with national and state pro-life groups have underscored the urgent need to push our lawmakers to end taxpayer-funded abortions. This month, pro-life advocates are rallying in Washington and across local districts, making it clear that the time to act is now.
Changing laws and policies is important, but so is changing hearts and minds. However, a critical third avenue in this fight is to undermine the abortion industry itself. This industry, supported by millions in taxpayer funds and performing nearly a million abortions annually, must be weakened.
Efforts to reduce the number of abortions, clinics, and abortionists are essential, as is cutting the financial lifelines of this industry. State, federal, and international funding streams exist, with some controlled by the Executive branch and others requiring Congressional action.
President Trump has already taken measures to cut these funding streams. Multiple bills have been introduced in Congress to support this initiative. Next week, the Supreme Court will hear a pivotal case about states’ rights to defund abortion providers, a significant step forward.
In addition, the Department of Justice is creating a favorable climate to halt unnecessary funding that has persisted for decades. Defunding “Big Abortion” involves cutting public funds for both the procedure itself and any organizations promoting it, such as Planned Parenthood.
Priests for Life is organizing a grassroots campaign encouraging citizens to visit their Congressional Representatives and Senators, urging them to protect taxpayer money from funding abortions. Visit ProLifeVote.com for more information. Polls show most Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortions.
It’s crucial not to assume that pro-life lawmakers don’t need your support. Communicate with them, providing evidence of constituent backing so they can confidently represent you in debates. On the other hand, reaching out to pro-abortion representatives might not change minds, but it ensures our voices are counted. They work for us, and their jobs depend on our votes.
The time has come to stop funding abortion, a vital step in making America great again. Priests for Life’s lobbying arm, ProLifeVote.com, led by Frank Pavone, successfully made 65 million voter contacts last year, engaged 390,000 pastors, and conducted numerous voter training seminars nationwide.
