Comedian Danny Mullen, known for his bold humor and unapologetic style, recently took part in an unforgettable showdown at a large anti-Tesla protest in Palo Alto, California. Arriving in a DOGE shirt and a pro-Trump hat, Mullen was determined to bring some humor into what he saw as a gathering ripe for some good-natured ribbing.
Initially, Mullen’s presence at the protest was met with light-hearted reactions. Many protesters understood that he was there to troll them. However, the situation took a serious turn when Mullen encountered a bearded, middle-aged man. This individual confronted him as the comedian engaged with other protesters.
The protester mocked Mullen using a faux hick accent, taunting, “Sir, we have tiny d*cks, and that’s why we support this sh*t!” and slapped Mullen, knocking his hat off. Responding to this aggression, Mullen recounted his martial arts experience in the video. He deliberated on his response, aiming for an “artful” approach.
Mullen chose to defend himself by mirroring the man’s actions, slapping him back in self-defense. However, this did not end the altercation. In a moment reminiscent of King Theoden’s words from Lord of the Rings, “So it begins,” Mullen engaged in a brief struggle with the man. The comedian, a brown belt in jiu-jitsu, effectively subdued his aggressor with a swift takedown.

Mullen explained that once he realized the man desired combat, he decided to take him down to avoid being struck again. “Jiu-jitsu is based on the idea that if your opponent is standing, he can put his full body into his strike and generate enough force to knock you out,” Mullen elaborated. “But once you get him to the ground, it’s over.”
The protester, unaware of the intricacies of jiu-jitsu, attempted to retaliate by biting Mullen. Nevertheless, Mullen applied a triangle choke, a move that restricts blood flow to the brain by encircling the opponent’s neck and arm with the legs. Despite calls from other protesters for Mullen to release their comrade, he held firm, maintaining control without causing harm.
“If you want to, you can extinguish someone’s life with a triangle,” Mullen stated in his commentary. “But for a situation like this, you put the guy on timeout.” After ensuring the safety of the situation, Mullen released the man, emphasizing that his intention was not to inflict harm.
