The former Vice President, Mike Pence, might be facing criticism from his Republican peers, but it seems he’s found favor elsewhere. Awarded the “John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award,” Pence is being acknowledged for what some consider a betrayal of the MAGA movement by certifying the 2020 election results.

In a statement by the Kennedy Foundation’s Caroline Kennedy and Jack Schlossberg, they remarked, “Despite our political differences, it is hard to imagine an act of greater consequence than Vice President Pence’s decision to certify the 2020 presidential election during an attack on the U.S. Capitol.” They added, “Upholding his oath to the Constitution and following his conscience, the Vice President put his life, career, and political future on the line.”

The Kennedy family, known for their staunch Democratic leanings, undoubtedly see Pence’s actions as worthy of recognition. Meanwhile, Pence himself expressed gratitude, stating he was “deeply humbled and honored” by the award. “I have been inspired by the life and words of President John F. Kennedy since my youth and am honored to join the company of so many distinguished Americans who have received this recognition in the past,” he said.

This award, established in 1989, is meant for public servants who make bold decisions based on conscience, regardless of personal or professional risks. Among the past recipients are figures like Liz Cheney, Adam Schiff, Jocelyn Benson, and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, each controversial in their own right.

While Pence may savor the accolades from Democrats, his standing with conservative believers, who were instrumental in elevating him to the vice presidency, remains tarnished. Attempting to chart his political course, Pence embarked on a presidential campaign for 2024. Despite his efforts and substantial fundraising, it became painfully clear that his chances of securing the nomination were slim to none.

Facing this reality, he withdrew from the race before the Iowa caucuses, acknowledging, “now is not my time,” yet another decision that didn’t sit well with Trump’s supporters, especially after his refusal to endorse Trump despite prior commitments.
