In the latest twist of media attacks against the Trump administration, President Trump has firmly denied the wild claims circulating from the far-left New York Times about a supposed altercation between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and tech mogul Elon Musk. The President dismissed these allegations as nothing more than fake news.

The controversial report suggests a heated confrontation erupted between Rubio and Musk during a White House Cabinet meeting, with Mediaite sensationally describing it as a “knock-down, drag-out fight.” According to the New York Times, the argument was so intense that President Trump had to step in to support Rubio.

The Times’ narrative, penned by Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman, alleges that Musk critiqued Rubio for his performance, particularly concerning staffing at the State Department. Rubio, reportedly fired back by highlighting his efforts to restructure the department, including buyouts for over 1,500 employees. The article claims the dispute required the President’s intervention to restore order.

However, as is often the case with the Times, the report lacks concrete evidence, relying instead on anonymous sources supposedly “familiar with the matter.” The story claims President Trump made it clear that Cabinet secretaries, not Musk, would retain decision-making control.

“Mr. Rubio had been privately furious with Mr. Musk for weeks, ever since his team effectively shuttered an entire agency that was supposedly under Mr. Rubio’s control: the United States Agency for International Development. But, in the extraordinary cabinet meeting in front of President Trump and around 20 others — details of which have not been reported before — Mr. Rubio got his grievances off his chest.”

According to the Times, Rubio confronted Musk over his alleged inaccuracies, sarcastically asking if Musk wanted him to rehire and then fire the same employees just for show. The Times paints a picture of Musk dismissing Rubio’s television appearances as his only strength. Meanwhile, President Trump reportedly watched on, eventually stepping in to commend Rubio’s efforts and dedication.

The meeting, described as a pivotal moment, hinted at a shift in the Trump administration’s dynamics, with Trump indicating potential limits on Musk’s aggressive strategies. Cabinet members appreciate Musk’s goal of reducing waste but expressed concerns over his methods.

Mediaite highlighted that the Times article followed a Politico report, which revealed Trump instructed Musk to focus on recommendations rather than unilateral decisions. President Trump addressed the situation on Truth Social, reiterating his commitment to efficiency and teamwork:

“The Golden Age of America has just begun! Over the past six weeks, our Administration has delivered on promises like no Administration before it, always putting America First! DOGE has been an incredible success, and now that we have my Cabinet in place, I have instructed the Secretaries and Leadership to work with DOGE on Cost Cutting measures and Staffing.

As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go. We say the “scalpel” rather than the “hatchet.” The combination of them, Elon, DOGE, and other great people will be able to do things at a historic level.

We just had a meeting with most of the Secretaries, Elon, and others, and it was a very positive one. It’s very important that we cut levels down to where they should be, but it’s also important to keep the best and most productive people.

We’re going to have these meetings every two weeks until that aspect of this very necessary job is done. The relationships between everybody in that room are extraordinary. They all want to get to the exact same place, which is, simply, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In response, White House officials and agency representatives have reinforced the message of unity and progress. Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, emphasized the meeting’s productivity and focus on cost-cutting strategies. Similarly, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce and a Department of Veterans Affairs spokesman echoed the commitment to efficiency and conservative values.
