
The saying goes, “Elephants never forget,” and it seems Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) learned that the hard way during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. The event was focused on the surge of nationwide injunctions against the Trump administration by activist judges. Republicans aimed to explore solutions to this pressing issue.
During the hearing, Klobuchar attempted to corner Jesse Panuccio, who served as the acting United States Associate Attorney General in the Trump administration. She questioned him on whether he had ever verbally attacked a judge on social media. Her inquiry backfired spectacularly.
Klobuchar asked: “As a partner in a law firm, have you ever taken to social media to attack a judge who personally ruled against you?”
Panuccio’s response was swift and sharp. While acknowledging that personally insulting judges is wrong, he turned the tables on Klobuchar by recalling a violent statement made by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) directed at Supreme Court Justices.
“Let me just give you a quote: ‘I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh; you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price,’” Panuccio stated. “That was something Senator Schumer said, and I thought it was awful.”
He further added, “And it released a wave of violent threats against Supreme Court Justices, and I think that’s problematic.”

Klobuchar, clearly caught off-guard by Panuccio’s retort, struggled to respond, managing only to say, “I have, I have, no doubt the language is a problem on the left and the right.”
