The estimates are shocking: this nefarious platform was serving a staggering 1.8 million users around the globe. “Operation Stream,” hailed as the largest operation ever conducted by Europol in tackling child sexual exploitation, stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment to safeguarding our children.
Investigations have reached into 35 countries, with 79 suspects already apprehended. Authorities are casting a wide net, scrutinizing over 1,400 individuals, including more than 100 potential offenders located within Germany.
This vile hub, launched in 2021, rapidly became one of the most extensive operations of its kind, with European investigators deeming it the largest ever uncovered on the continent. The digital trove reportedly hosted over 91,000 heinous videos, with new materials being uploaded at a disturbing pace—averaging three to four videos per hour.
These criminals paid for access to an online hell where they could stream or contribute content that involved the sexual abuse of minors.
Europol’s Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle, expressed the grave consequences of this digital age crime, “The digital dimension has driven a rapid evolution in online child sexual exploitation, offering offenders a borderless platform to contact and groom victims, as well as to create, store, and exchange child sexual abuse material.” She sternly reminded the world, “There are real victims behind these crimes, and those victims are children. As a society, we must act to protect our children.”
The pursuit of justice is ongoing, with authorities working tirelessly across multiple jurisdictions to hold every perpetrator accountable and ensure the safety of our future generations.
