The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), guided by the visionary leadership of Elon Musk under the Trump administration, has taken decisive action to slash funding for several contentious research grants. Among these cuts is a $620,000 reduction aimed at a pregnancy prevention program targeting biological females who identify as “transgender boys.”

In a bold announcement via X, DOGE declared the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had rescinded funding for several research projects:

Furthermore, the NIH had been funding a range of projects at universities nationwide, which have now been scrutinized:

  • $100,000 at Vanderbilt University focused on “social networks” among “sexual and gender minorities.”
  • $37,000 at the University of Houston exploring the “fear of deportation” among “Latinx young adults.”
  • $681,000 at the University of Pennsylvania for “anti-vaping” campaigns targeting “sexual and gender minority teens.”
  • $225,000 at the University of Colorado researching the “effects of hormones on headaches in transmasculine adolescents.”

In addition to these specific funding cuts, DOGE reported that over two days, government agencies terminated 239 contracts, with a combined ceiling value of approximately $1.7 billion, leading to savings of around $400 million. This includes an $8.5 million consulting contract focused on enhancing management and operational programs.
