The House GOP nominated Steve Scalise to be its nominee for Speaker of the House.
Scalise is still trying to get enough support to win the House vote and become Speaker.
It looks like he will not be getting help from Donald Trump.
A new report claims that Trump will not be helping Scalise woo Republicans who are not supporting him.
Scalise has still not endorsed Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise should not expect any help from Donald Trump in his bid to become speaker of the House, sources tell The Messenger.
Scalise hasn’t been loyal enough to the former president and 2024 presidential frontrunner, so he shouldn’t count on Trump to help woo enough GOP holdouts — who include Trump allies — to push him over the finish line, they say.
Scalise has yet to endorse Trump’s 2024 White House campaign, which may dissuade the former president from helping to lobby detractors in Scalise’s direction, three sources familiar with the former president’s thinking told The Messenger.
“Trump personally likes Steve. There’s no real animosity,” said one of the sources. “But the fact is, loyalty is a two-way street and Steve had a chance to support the president but he didn’t.”
